Health and safety training programme

The International Safety Training Centre in Hal Far is offering a comprehensive and customised training programme for organisations to maintain professional standards in the market place.

The package has been created in coordination with the law firm Ganado and Associates, in view of the Occupational Health and Safety Authority Act which should instil a greater sense of responsibility at the workplace.

ISTC managing director David Ghersci said over 5,000 occupational health and safety cases were reported each year and the law was "truly beneficial" to both employers and employees. The Act encouraged a cultural change, which would not occur overnight, but which he considered to be a "revolution".

A Maltese-Dutch joint venture owned by Alberta Group and RISC Group Holland, the ISTC is a provider of top-notch health and safety training, advice and consultancy on an international level. ISTC has been providing training around the Mediterranean basin for a diverse range of leading market clients, said Mr Ghersci.

Malta's central geographic location is a springboard to provide high-quality training and education in the field of occupational health and safety in the Mediterranean region, with particular focus on North Africa, he said.

The training courses, which include OHS awareness and risk assessment and management, are being held at the ISTC training centre at the Fire Training Grounds in Hal Far and are being conducted by qualified instructors.
