The Victoria Hotel in Sliema will be expanded by an additional 134 rooms, bringing the total number of rooms to 273 and transforming it into a luxury four-star facility at an investment of Lm6 million.
The extension will also include complementary facilities as well as an underground multi-storey car park.
Design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates has been appointed by AX Holdings to carry out the interior design.
Claire Xuereb, acting general manager of the Victoria Hotel, said the project would be completed by the end of 2005.
The project architects are Mangion, Mangion & Partners while Mediterranean Technical Services Ltd are the electrical and mechanical consultants.
She said that, backed by years of experience and hundreds of completed projects, Hirsch Bedner Associates was renowned as the No. 1 hospitality design firm in the world.
Currently the Victoria Hotel is undergoing a refurbishment project, which will see the hotel rooms being enhanced with soft furnishing and a superior style.
The rooms will feature more wood trimmings and better lighting all round.
The refurbishment project, as distinct from the hotel extension, was estimated to cost Lm650,000 and its projected completion date was March next year, Ms Xuereb said.
