Director of Sport post close
Four candidates vying to succeed Pippo Psaila
The Malta Olympic Committee (MOC) have received four nominations for the post of Director of Sport which became vacant after the resignation of Pippo Psaila last month.
The four candidates standing for next month's election are: David Azzopardi (Malta Volleyball Association and Malta Handball Association), Dr Clarence Busuttil (Malta Tennis Federation and Malta Table Tennis Association), Envic Galea (Malta Judo Federation and Malta Amateur Athletics Association) and Marie Therese Zammit (Malta Netball Association and the Squash Rackets Association).
Psaila stepped down from MOC Director of Sport soon after leading Malta to its best performance in the history of the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE), staged on the islands in the first week of June.
Local sporting associations, affiliated with the MOC, had until noon yesterday to submit the name of their preferred candidate.
According to the MOC Statute, nominees had to be proposed and seconded by two member associations.
The election will be held on August 19.
