Alternattiva Demokratika has expressed dismay at the issuing of a permit for the demolition of a building in the San Pawl tat-Targa village core.
AD chairman Harry Vassallo said: "The small group of houses that constitute a historic hamlet around It-Torri tal-Kaptan, Torri Gauci and the chapel that gives the area its name are essential in preserving the character of the area and any permitted alterations should maintain the present façades and streetscapes.
"It is astonishing that the proposed demolition has been approved regardless of the neighbours' objections."
Dr Vassallo said that there appeared to be a serious failure of the planning process which should be immediately addressed by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority in order to help safeguard the quality of life of Maltese and Gozitans.
AD's European affairs spokesman and European Greens general secretary Arnold Cassola is chairing the European Greens' Working Group that is preparing its manifesto for next year's European elections.
The member parties of the European Federation of Greens - including Alternattiva Demokratika - will be voting on it in Luxembourg next November.
The European Green Parties will be having a common preamble to their electoral manifestoes and then each national party will be adding those issues which are of particular national interest.
