OASI FoundatioN held its yearly summer camp last week, in collaboration with the HSBC Cares for Children Fund.
The five-day Summer OASI Learning Experience (SOLE) activity, organised for children aged 10 to 13, was held at the ITS premises in Qala.
The 20 children who benefited from this year's experience, attended sessions on self-esteem, friendship, peer pressure and the avoidance of drugs and alcohol. They also attended various workshops, during which they were taught how to make crafts and recycle old newspapers.
During a day trip in Malta, the children were taken on an underwater safari on the Captain Morgan cruise ship. They visited the HSBC offices in Blata l-Bajda to see what it is like to work in an international bank, and afterwards they were taken to Mdina for some games.
On the closing night of the summer camp, the children put together a talent show for their parents, followed by a light reception.
SOLE, an initiative of the OASI Foundation's Primary Prevention Team, incorporates the principle of "edutainment" into all its prevention activities. This involves organising activities which enable those participating to learn while they are enjoying themselves.
The OASI Foundation and HSBC believe that these summer camps have had a very positive impact on the building of a solid personality. For five days the children were allowed to freely express themselves, to learn and to have fun - three things every child needs to grow up in a healthy way.
