A number of Kercem residents have signed sworn affidavits declaring that they have been badly affected by the installation of a Vodafone microwave antenna installed on the roof of a house in March 10, 1885 Street.
They have complained of severe headaches and expressed concern about health of their children, and its effects on the environment. One pregnant woman expressed anxiety about the effects radiation may have on her and her unborn child. Two people also made reference to the effects on blood pressure conidtions.
Reference was also made to interference with television reception, as well a decline in the value of their property.
According to Dr Alfred Grech, who is representing the local council, a doctor explained that he has been having problems with practising in the area, due to the antenna's effects on hearing aids, pacemakers and other medical equipment.
On August 1 Magistrate Paul Coppini is expected to continue to hear evidence in the case instituted by the mayor of Kercem, Joseph Grima, and Carmel Grima, the local council's executive secretary, for the issuing of a warrant of prohibitory injunction against Vodafone in connection with the antenna.
