Anthony R. Curmi, 69, a former banker, has been elected for a second four-year term as treasurer of Caritas Internationalis, a Vatican-based Church organisation which traces its origins to 1924.

Mr Curmi was first elected to the post in 1999. He was voted treasurer by a wide majority during CI's 17th General Assembly. Caritas Malta was represented by its director, Mgr. Victor Grech and by Maryanne Swain.

The other two candidates came from Germany and Croatia.

Caritas Malta has been a member of Caritas Internationalis since 1968.
