The Hypogeum, Mdina and Casa Rocca Piccola, in Valletta have been listed among the 50 "best-kept secrets in the Mediterranean" by the national UK newspaper The Independent.
A panel of travel writers who specialise in Mediterranean destinations drew up a list of what they consider to be the top 50 sites in the region.
The Hypogeum was listed as the most enigmatic of Malta's Unesco World Heritage Sites.
Mdina was commended, with a particular mention of the 17th century Xara Palace Hotel which has been "restored with the greatest attention to detail", while Casa Rocca Piccola was described as offering "a unique chance to see inside one of the last private unconverted Valletta palaces, still in use as a private home today".
The Malta Tourism Authority's regional director for northern Europe, John Montague, said the inclusion of three of Malta's prime historical attractions in a quality newspaper such as this was the result of the MTA's concerted effort to reposition Malta in the UK market, highlighting the features that differentiate Malta from other Mediterranean destinations.
