A 67-year-old German man died yesterday afternoon while swimming off Comino, the police said.

After making preliminary investigations, the Gozo police said the man reportedly felt chest pains before passing away.

People who were swimming close to the man managed to get him ashore and offered first aid but he died shortly afterwards.

A helicopter took the victim to the Gozo hospital where an autopsy is expected to be held.
