Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi led a parliamentary delegation composed of Frederick Azzopardi (PN) and Angelo Farrugia (MLP) at the 12th annual session of the OSCE parliamentary assembly in Rotterdam.
At the close of the meeting nearly 300 parliamentarians adopted the Rotterdam Declaration focusing on the political, economic and human rights aspects of the central theme of the session - "The Role of the OSCE in the New Architecture of Europe".
Dr Azzopardi addressed the assembly on the main theme of the conference. He focused on how the events of September 11, 2001 and the present state of Euro-Atlantic relations post Iraq influenced the shaping of the present European security system.
He also discussed the issue of whether the existing international security structures - OSCE included - were adequate to respond to the new realities, risks and challenges.
He also spoke of the OSCE's risk of becoming irrelevant following the forthcoming Nato and EU enlargement.
