Recall of bottled water completed

Farsons said it has recovered from the market the batch of Aquadot bottled water that had been found to be defective.

The batch consisted of 36 pallets of which eight were still in the company stores.

Farsons explained that the bottles affected were clearly coded as Batch 12 of June 2003.

During the production of this particular batch only there was a component failure that resulted in the water having a pungent smell and sharp taste, the company explained.

Farsons said it could give its assurance that all Aquadot available on the market from now onwards was cleared for consumption. It also thanked the trade and consumers for their full cooperation and understanding.

The company said that although the product had no microbiological faults, it recalled it in line with the procedures laid down in the ISO 9001 standard.

The recall was more of a precautionary measure as the quality of this particular batch of Aquadot could not be guaranteed.

Concurrently, the Department of Public Health had been informed about the situation, Farsons said.

The company said it took its quality responsibilities very seriously and, in fact, it had ordered the suspension of all sales of Aquadot even though a relatively small quantity of the production run was affected.
