July 21 opening for SkolaSport Sajf 2003
Sessions in sailing, swimming and basic skills
SkolaSport Sajf 2003, organised by Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport (KMS) and sponsored by Kellogg's, starts functioning on Monday, July 21 and comes to a close on September 21.
For the first time since the sports project was launched, activities will also be held at the Cottonera Sports Complex.
This was announced by Minister for Youth and the Arts Jesmond Mugliett in midweek during the launching of SkolaSport Sajf.
Also present was KMS chairman Michael Aquilina.
"In recent years government has invested a lot of effort in forming a culture of participation in sports. We believe that our children should be brought up in this culture and SkolaSport Sajf is thus an ideal initiative," he said.
The positive effect that past editions of SkolaSport Sajf left on sailing were already being felt.
"Sailing clubs are bustling with activity and the excellent results obtained in the Games for the Small States of Europe proved that we are achieving the goal of inspiring more people to practise sport," Mr Mugliett added.
SkolaSport Sajf is an extension of the winter programme, which has also been sponsored by Kellogg's for the past five years. This summer there will be sessions in sailing, swimming and basic skills for children aged between 5 and 16.
Sailing sessions will be held at the Vikings Sailing Club and at Birzebbuga Sailing Club.
Swimming lessons will take place at the National Pool and Sirens Club. Sessions in basic skills will be held at the Cottonera Sports Complex as will fitness classes for adults.
Applications may be obtained from the Cottonera Sports Complex, the National Pool, the University Sports Complex and local council offices.
