A Sta Venera man yesterday had his punishment reduced after an appeal court cleared him of assaulting his wife.

Joseph Thorne was originally conditionally discharged for three years for assaulting his wife and slightly injuring his mother-in-law in Sta Venera on November 18, 2002, at about 9 p.m.

But Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono cleared him of assaulting his wife after noting she had withdrawn her complaint and conditionally discharged him for a year and a half.
