The widow of Maltese film extra George Camilleri, who died following an incident on the set of the film Troy, is engaged in discussions with Latina Pictures Limited to find out what kind of insurance cover Mr Camilleri had as a film extra, Edward Zammit Lewis said yesterday.

Dr Zammit Lewis, who is acting as legal representative to Mr Camilleri's widow Josephine and her children, said there were no plans to sue the film producers for £200,000, as the Sunday Express reported on Sunday. The Times yesterday carried a summary of the report.

He said that the family were waiting for the results of the magisterial inquiry, in which medical experts had been appointed, and this should determine whether Mr Camilleri's death was linked to the injuries he sustained while filming for Troy.

Mr Camilleri, 39, was injured on May 31 when he jumped off a galleon into the sea while filming was taking place at Golden Bay. It is not exactly clear what happened, but he broke his left thigh and was subsequently released from hospital, where he was readmitted following complications. He died in hospital on June 17.

Dr Zammit Lewis said there was no truth in the report which said that Mr Camilleri had asked doctors to allow him to return home because he was missing his children. Dr Zammit Lewis said it was the medical consultants who had authorised his release from hospital.

Dr Zammit Lewis also denied that Brad Pitt ever visited Mr Camilleri. Mr Camilleri was given a DVD player and a 32-inch television and a small number of films after his injury, and he was told that these had been sent at Brad Pitt's request.

Dr Zammit Lewis said he had sent a letter to the Sunday Express to clarify the matter.
