Between tomorrow and July 24 the Malta Centre for Restoration (MCR) will be holding a preparatory course primarily aimed at those interested in furthering their studies to pursue a career in conservation and restoration.

This course is open to the general public and is highly recommended for candidates wishing to sit for the entrance examination, which is one of the special entry requirements for admission to the Bachelorís degree in Conservation and Restoration Studies B.Cons. (Hons).

The preparatory course covers the following topics: Introduction to Conservation and Restoration, Introduction to Conservation Science, History of Art, History of Architecture and Archaeology for Conservation, Artistic techniques: Painting, Sculpture, Textiles, Paper and Books, Line Drawing and Documentation, Subject Area practicals.

The fee for the preparatory course, which is open to up to 40 students, is Lm30 for students and Lm60 for non-students.

The B.Cons. (Hons) course taught at the Institute for Conservation and Restoration Studies at MCR leads to a degree awarded by the University of Malta. This course allows for the specialisation in four main areas of study namely: paintings and polychrome sculpture (area A), ceramics, glass, metals and stone (area B), textiles (area C), and books and paper (area D).
