Deacon Charles Sultana from the Marija Bambina parish, in Xaghra and seminarist Geoffrey Attard, from St George's parish, in Victoria were ordained priest and deacon respectively by Gozo Bishop Nikol Cauchi during a ceremony at the Gozo Cathedral.
In his homily, Mgr Cauchi said priests should never expect the public to look up to them as idols or popular figures. Such an approach had often led to mistakes in the past.
"A priest should be humble and should be pleased not when people mention his name or give him applause but when he sees people moving closer to God," the bishop said.
On July 12, Deacon Tonio Galea will be ordained in his native St George's parish church by the Archbishop of New York, Cardinal Edward Michael Egan, in a ceremony which starts at 7.30 p.m.
