First aid certification is a compulsory pre-requisite for a health and safety credit which is given in the second semester of the second year of studies. First-year students, however, have felt the need to gain first aid certification prior to commencing their teaching practice in the first week of May, in order to be able to cope with an emergency.
These students intend to be re-certified in their fourth year of studies before finishing their degree.
Carmel Borg, head of the Department of Primary Education and incoming dean of the Faculty of Education, presented the certificates together with Jaime H. Cremona, director of training, St John Ambulance.
