A number of men, most of them foreign, who fit the description of the person who allegedly raped a 55-year-old Floriana woman are being photographed in a bid to identify the offender, police sources said yesterday.
The photos will then be shown to the victim.
The sources said an identikit of the man has been circulated to police stations and to policemen manning the ports.
A number of men have been questioned in connection with the case.
The woman was brutally raped in the subway close to Portes-des-Bombes early on Sunday morning. The aggressor, who banged the woman's head against a billboard before dragging her down into the subway, spoke Maltese "with an Arab accent".
The police believe the aggressor is in his early 30s, is well built and stands about six feet tall. His head is shaved and he has been described as having rather large lips.
The woman had to undergo surgery after the offender kicked her and fractured her leg.
Vice squad police inspector Louise Calleja is investigating the case, with the assistance of the Hamrun district and the CID.
