The Ghadira Nature Reserve is to be closed to visitors for summer and will reopen in late October.
This period will allow breeding birds not to be disturbed and wardens to carry out maintenance works.
The reserve, situated opposite Mellieha Bay, is one of the few places in Malta where the public can appreciate and indulge in some bird watching from purposely built hides.
BirdLife Malta, which runs the reserve, said more than 6,300 people paid a visit between the end of October last year and May this year. Some 2,250 were foreigners.
