During a meeting with NCW members, Carole Bell, Pre-Accession Adviser, EU, spoke about the role of women's NGOs in strengthening public awareness on consumer rights.
The meeting, organised with the assistance of the Consumer and Competition Division, dealt with issues regarding the right to clear and correct information about prices of goods, the commercial guarantee, repair and replacement as established in the sale of goods and consumer guarantees legislation that came into force in July 2002.
Strengthening of consumer protection laws requires intensified efforts in view of the fast growing selling and advertising techniques. NCW has been one of the first NGOs to create awareness on consumer education and will go on with its initiatives to set up effective channels to promote consumer advice and education and to encourage women to be active consumer educators.
