Europe for a Change project

On May 1, 2004 the political and economic map of Europe will be redrawn with the accession of ten new member states, including Malta, to the European Union.

For this reason, NSTS Student and Youth Travel, with the support of the European Youth Card Association (EYCA) and the European Commission, is giving the opportunity to Maltese youths aged under 26 to participate in an international competition about perspectives in a new and certainly larger Europe.

In a unique project called "Europe for a Change", EYCA, together with the European Commission, will seek out and collect answers from under-26s in the 'old' and 'new' member states and then publish the results.

Through this project, youths have the opportunity to get to know the issues, challenges and opportunities faced by youths in other European countries. This would help young people to broaden their horizons by getting to know how the vision of young citizens in the 25 EU member states are alike or differ.

During this cross-border project, young people from Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Wales have the opportunity to express how they perceive the European Union as it is now and what they would like their world to look like in the future.

NSTS Student and Youth Travel invites all those aged under 26 to write a brief article based on the theme "Europe for a Change" before July 14. Submissions are to be sent by e-mail to: lscic@nsts.org.

Two winners will be selected and they will have the opportunity to participate free of charge in a four-day workshop in Salzburg as part of this project.

For further information about this project contact NSTS Student and Youth Travel on 2124-4983 ext. 248 or e-mail: lscic@nsts.org
