According to figures in the front page article of The Times, the number of cases received by the ombudsman has decreased.

Of course, part of the reason is that many parastatal companies have now been privatised and any complaints by employees of these companies cannot be entertained by the ombudsman.

A clear example of the above was a case/complaint I lodged with the ombudsman myself when I was working with Mid-Med Bank Ltd. It took the ombudsman's office about two years to handle my case.

The result was then very fair - sorry HSBC [Malta] Ltd has taken over and since it is a private company we cannot handle your case. My case had been lodged two years previous to the takeover.

I do not think it is just a case of MP's not showing interest in the ombudsman!
