The sewage treatment plant planned for Gozo will be located at Mgarr ix-Xini while the location of another two plants in Malta will be decided in the coming weeks, Infrastructure Minister Ninu Zammit has told parliament.

He said in reply to a parliamentary question by Mr Evarist Bartolo (MLP) that the plants in Gozo and the North of Malta were due to be operational in 2005 while another plant in the south of Malta will be operational in 2007. The Gozo plant will cost €9 million, part of which will be financed by the EU.

The infrastructure for the plant in the north of Malta was estimated to cost €12.3 million and would be financed through the Italian financial protocol. The plant in the south of Malta will cost some €70 million.
