A talent show commemorating Qala Day was organised by youngsters of Qala at the Family Garden. The locality's anthem, sung by pupils of President Anton Buttigieg Primary School, was followed by readings of various poems and essays by the children.
Groups of children and youths performed dances together with musical pieces played by Kristof Buttigieg on his accordion.
Gozitan author Fr Joseph Bezzina, in a speech, referred to his book Qala - The Village with Valleys and View. Commissioned by the local council, it traces the history of Qala, with various illustrations of particular places of interest.
Mayor Paul Buttigieg in his address explained how on June 3, 1994, the first Qala council was elected. The council celebrates Qala Day on the same day by holding various social and cultural activities, which are aimed to attract Qala residents. He stressed the importance of Fr Bezzina's book which now enables every household in the village to be familiar with its history.
Mr Buttigieg concluded by thanking the councillors and the residents of Qala for their co-operation and support. This was followed by the distribution of donations and mementoes to various societies.
