This week the Victory Monument in the main square of Vittoriosa was unveiled after an intensive restoration that lasted for six months. The restoration mainly consisted of cleaning and the peeling of about 15 dark green layers of paint. This monument is the original dedicated to the Victory of the Great Siege of 1565. It was erected by Grand Master Ramon Perellos y Roccaful in 1706.

On behalf of the people of Vittoriosa and all those who are proud of our history I would like to thank all those responsible for these projects. Now restoration is also in progress on the façade of the Inquisitor's palace.

We also hope that the other monument in the main square dedicated to St Lawrence, erected in 1881, will also go through the same process of professional restoration.
