The Blue Hole in Dwejra has been voted among the 50 'Best Beaches in Europe' in a survey in The Independent newspaper in the UK.
The Blue Hole was listed among the 10 best dive sites in Europe and ranked 23rd in the overall list of 'Best Beaches in Europe'.
One of the panel of experts who voted on this survey, DIVE Magazine editor Simon Rogerson, said: "For British divers, Malta and the neighbouring island of Gozo are the biggest dive destinations in the Med. The attraction is the Med's only known blue hole and a real geological anomaly."
The Independent newspaper, which has a circulation of around 220,000 in the UK remarked that "this natural plunge-pool of royal blue appears to lead to the centre of the Earth, but actually bottoms out at around 60 metres."
Over 35,000 tourists visit Malta every year specifically to dive.
