The Criminal Court will on Monday sentence four men for a series of burglaries after jurors yesterday returned guilty verdicts against two. The other two men had filed guilty pleas.

Brian Agius, 24, of Siggiewi, was found guilty, unanimously, of a string of thefts while Joseph Calleja, 24, of Sta Venera, was found guilty, by seven votes to three, of involvement in only some of the thefts.

Agius was found not guilty of the attempted murder of a police officer by pushing him down a height of four metres on September 6, 1999, after jurors, with six votes to three, found him guilty only of involuntarily seriously injuring PC Walter Sheldon.

Meanwhile, Calleja's brother Noel, 22, and Kevin Falzon, 23 of Qormi, pleaded guilty to the theft charges brought against them. Judgment in their case will also be handed down on Monday after Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono yesterday heard witnesses and submissions on punishment.
