Over 1,300 students took part in an educational programme organised by the Malta Tourism Authority called Choice.

The main objective of this programme is to promote careers in tourism and raise awareness among secondary school students about the careers that exist within the tourism industry.

Students from each of the 15 schools that took part in the programme were invited to participate in a competition through the submission of a tourism related project.

The first prize, a trip to Budapest sponsored by Corinthia Hotels International and Air Malta, was won by Lara Mifsud, Jennifer Shaw and Janet Sultana from St Joseph School, Sliema, with their project called Maltese Culinary Delights, on the production of honey, olive oil and bread, as well as a calendar for visitors to the Maltese islands. In Budapest, the students will be accompanied by their guidance teacher.

The second prize of a weekend stay in Gozo sponsored by the Kempinski San Lawrenz Resort and Spa was awarded to Luke Ungaro, Christina Formosa and Jessica Spiteri from St Martin's College. The third prize consisted of a set of limited edition books and was won by Ariana Falzon, Petra Micallef and Krista Cuschieri, also from St Martin's College.

The prizes were awarded during a ceremony organised at the Victoria Hotel.

The Choice programme will be organised again during the next scholastic year.
