It may not be as hot as hell but it is a good seven percentage points hotter than average!

A spokesman for the Meteorological Office said yesterday that the maximum temperature was 35 degrees Celsius, when the average for the June 11-20 period is 27.5 degrees. On Saturday, it was 33 degrees, five percentage points above the average.

However, no records are being broken. The hottest June day occurred in 1997, when the temperature rose to 40.1 degrees.

The temperature started rising above the average for this time of the year last Thursday.

The temperature is forecast to continue in the mid-thirties for the rest of the week.
