Teenager dies in road accident

A teenager on a motor scooter died yesterday afternoon in a collision with a route bus at Kirkop.

Seventeen-year-old Marlon Busuttil, of Zurrieq, was driving a Honda 70 towards Safi in Hal Safi Street, corner with San Benedittu Street, at about 4 p.m. as a route bus was coming from the opposite direction.

The police, who are investigating the cause of the accident, said last night that Busuttil lost control of the bike and ended up beneath the bus.

He died on the spot, his crash helmet having been flung a couple of metres away.

The bus driver and some of the passengers were suffering from shock.

Ambulance staff tried to take the distraught driver to hospital, although he was unhurt, but he refused to go.

Superintendent Angelo Baldacchino and Inspector Walter Spiteri are investigating.
