Nature Trust (Malta) has called on the Malta Environment and Planning Authority to demolish a concrete bridge recently constructed across Xlendi Valley, calling it an "eyesore". The environmental lobby group appealed to Mepa to enforce the conditions resulting from the scheduling of the valley.

It said other threats to the environment were the release of sewage in the watercourse, mushrooming waste dumps around the valley, building on the valley sides and the consequent cutting down of age-old carob trees to make way for plush villas.
