The interest of the production Troy in the SPCA and its needs allowed it to spare two of its actors, Garrett Hedlund and Rose Byrne, to attend and draw the raffle at the society's fair last week, which raised Lm1,500. Hedlund is playing Patroclus and Australian Byrne is Briseis in the $180 million budget epic movie, which is filming in Malta until the beginning of July.
Despite their busy schedule, the actors found the time to attend the fair and mingle with the crowd and the animals, showing a keen interest in the society's needs.
The film production's cooperation with the SPCA kicked off when its director, Wolfgang Petersen's wife Maria, an animal lover, stumbled across an SPCA dog statue, set up in a hotel lobby for the collection of money.
She contacted the home on her own initiative, and has not stopped showering gifts on it and offering her expertise and ideas since. She has just sent over another "box of goodies" to the home.
And the collaboration continues with a reception, being hosted by the American Embassy on Sunday, during which Troy memorabilia is being auctioned.
