A group of 29 volunteers who are heading for Guatemala this summer for a missionary experience yesterday called on the Archbishop, Mgr Joseph Mercieca.

In Guatemala, the volunteers will build a home for the disabled with the Lm18,372 raised by the Mission Fund on May 31 when it organised Guatemala Day at the Trade Fair Grounds, in Naxxar.

The volunteers, who leave in July, include electricians, welders, teachers and drydocks workers.

The project is being put together under the watchful eye of Fr Anton Grech, who has been helping the poor in Guatemala for 10 years.

In the last four years, Fr Grech, 31, who serves in the parish of San Manuel Chaparron, has built a church, a number of small chapels, a school complex and a workshop, thanks to money donated by Maltese and Gozitan benefactors.
