Anglu Farrugia files protest against telephone tapping

Labour MP Anglu Farrugia yesterday filed a judicial letter in the First Hall of the Civil Court against the Police Commissioner and the chairman of Maltacom plc.

Dr Farrugia declared in his protest that he was a member of parliament and a practising lawyer.

He added that he had been informed that some Maltacom employees were, in a clandestine manner, intercepting phone calls made on a telephone line registered in his name.

The employees were doing this in order to pass on information to third parties for illicit purposes.

Dr Farrugia said he could not exclude that these employees were recording telephone conversations and that the recordings were already in third party hands.

These actions were completely illegal and in violation of his fundamental human rights, Dr Farrugia claimed, and he could sustain serious damage to his profession.

Dr Farrugia concluded his protest by calling upon respondents to carry out the necessary investigations, and held them liable for damages in case of default.
