A three-year-old Russian boy, Alen Bedbrebinov, was rushed to hospital in Gozo yesterday afternoon after finding himself in difficulties while swimming at Comino.

The police said the incident happened at about 2.45 p.m. Members of the Administrative Law Enforcement section who were in the vicinity were called to the scene and ferried the child to Gozo in their speedboat.

The boy was taken to Gozo general hospital by ambulance where his condition was found to be critical, but his condition stabilised after treatment and was not in danger of dying, the police said.

The boy is on holiday with his parents.
