Marriages

Mr ARMAND GRECH and Ms ANNA GIRARD
The marriage took place on May 30 at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception parish church, Ta' l-Ibrag, between ARMAND, son of Mr Joe Grech and Mrs Sonja Grech, and ANNA, daughter of Mr and Mrs Anthony Girard. Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Mgr Victor Grech. The ceremony was witnessed by Mr Gorg Grech and Ms Tania Viljoen. Mr Antoine Degiorgio carried out the duties of best man and Ms Mariella Balzan was maid of honour. Ms Roberta Girard, Ms Jessica Gatt and Ms Yasmine Grech were bridesmaids and Master Nicholas Mercieca was pageboy. A reception was later held at Palazzo Parisio, Naxxar.

Mr MICHAEL JON WACHTEL, M.Eng., Solicitor, and Miss LORRAINE NAPIER, BA (Hons.)
The marriage took place on Saturday, May 31, at Our Lady of Victories Basilica, Senglea, between MICHAEL, son of Mrs Marilyn Wachtel and the late Mr Forrest Julian Wachtel, and LORRAINE, daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur Napier. Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Archpriest Fr Joseph Grech. The witnesses were Mr Matthew Robinson and Mr Ian Napier. The duties of best man were carried out by the groom's twin brother, Sean. Annette Avery was maid of honour, while the bride's nieces, Jessica and Nicole, were flower-girls. Mr Paul Smith played the organ at the church, while Pat Caruana was the soloist. A reception was later held at the Le Meridien Phoenicia Hotel pool area. The couple are spending their honeymoon in Malaysia.

Sapphire Wedding

RITCHIE AZZOPARDI and CONNIE née SCHEMBRI are today celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary. Their marriage took place on June 8, 1958, at St Ignatius church, Sliema. A thanksgiving Mass is being celebrated today at 11 a.m. at Sacro Cuor parish church, Sliema. Together with their children Patricia, Ian and Paul, and in-laws and grandchildren Andrew, Deborah, Matthew and Mark, they thank the Lord for the many benefits bestowed during these 45 years.

Obituary

BERRIMAN. John Alexander (Jack) Captain of Espuma, Ta' Xbiex, aged 87, on June 2 at St James Capua Hospital. He leaves to mourn his loss his son John and his wife Margaret of UK, his daughter Shara of Australia, and their mother Enid, the family of the late Gaety Camilleri-Galea, her daughters Cynthia Thomson of Canada, Bobby and her husband Paul Micallef Eynaud of Scotland, and their children Stephanie, Robert and Elaine. Lord grant him eternal rest.

On June 6, at St Luke's Hospital, LEWIS (Gigi), aged 92 (ex-advertising manager, Union Press, and hon. treasurer, Ghaqda Veterani Laburisti), passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his children Miriam, wife of Dennis Balzan, Violet, wife of Alfred Cardona, Joe and his wife Sonya Leahy Gauci and Natalie Hulme, his grandchildren Alexandra, Arlette, Clare, Adrian, Michelle, Edward, Mark, Johanna, Mia, Alexis and their respective wives, husband and his six great-grandchildren, his brother Salvino and his wife Vivi, Harry and his wife Jane, Norah Gauci, other relatives and numerous friends.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital tomorrow at 9 a.m., for Balzan parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.30 a.m., followed by interment at Balzan Cemetery. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

MERCIECA. On June 7, William of Attard, aged 47, passed away suddenly, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Doreen, née Azzopardi, his children Bernardette, David, John and Philip, his parents Joseph and Jane, his brothers and sister Charles and his wife Anna, Josephine and her husband Lino Martinelli, Alex and his wife Emma, and Victor, his mother-in-law Doris Azzopardi, his sisters-in-law and their respective husbands, his nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends, especially those from Christ the King Charismatic Prayer Group. - R.I.P.

SCERRI. On June 7, at Residenza Sant'Anna, Victoria, Gozo, ANTONIETTA, widow of Louis (Gigi), aged 87, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Noel and his wife Pauline, Doreen and her husband Vincent Vella, Josette and her husband Norman Cassar, and Grace, her grandchildren Philippa, Susanne, Nicholas, Nina, Stephanie, Pamela, Christine, Kristian, Karen, Neal, Louisa and Suzanne, her eight great-grandchildren, her brother and sisters, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves Gozo General Hospital tomorrow at 4.30 p.m. for St Mary's Cathedral, Victoria, Gozo, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 5 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at St Mary's Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Arka Foundation, Ghajnsielem, Gozo, will be appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.
