I cannot refrain from writing again on this issue. Last Tuesday I was interviewed on PBS in the evening news and I must now write what I said. While bearing in mind that:
1) we are in the process of joining a Union which originated as a common market - a Union which still honours the principles of a liberalised market place;
2) the work done by Doulos is based on Christian principles;
3) we are the only country to deny them a permit.
We ought to be ashamed of ourselves!
In the prevailing scenario, when we are being denied our internationally recognised and accepted consumer rights to choose, to be informed, and to be educated, I encourage you to follow Stephen Spiteri's example who shared his book-shopping experience with us.
He bought a book from amazon.com (Managing My Life, by Alex Ferguson) for Lm8.50, post included. He received it within three days after he ordered it. At the time In Malta this book retailed at Lm14.
I invite consumers to share similar experiences with fellow consumers through our column. We must maximise on our liberalised marketplace. It is the only way to keep competition alive.
