From today, Bank of Valletta customers needing a personal loan can check their eligibility and get immediate approval for their loan over the phone.

A BoV Customer Service Centre official will guide customers through the loan application process. If the customer meets the required personal lending criteria, he or she will be given a reference number and can then go to any BoV branch, present the latest payslip and ID card to confirm all details given over the phone.

At the branch, the relationship officer will just check the details and then hand the customer an electronically generated loan application form to sign. At that point, the loan money will be given to the customer.

As a special introductory offer, BoV is offering a 1% discount on the interest rate for loans that are obtained over the phone until the end of July.

"There are many factors that will make the 'Loan by Phone' service very popular among our customers," says Raphael Vasssallo, head of Consumer Lending at BoV.

"First and foremost, customers will get to know their eligibility for a personal loan there and then. Whereas before customers needed to spend time waiting at a branch to go through all the required formalities, customers will now do this from the comfort of their home, office or from anywhere they happen to be.

"This of course saves the customer the time and effort of having to visit a branch to enquire and apply for a BoV personal loan. Moreover, customers using this service will enjoy increased accessibility since this service will be available daily for extended hours, namely, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. excluding Sundays and public holidays."

Mr Vassallo added "this new service is also in line with the bank's efforts to consolidate its relationship banking concept. BoV is fully conscious of its customers' needs and lifestyles.

"Through this service we are seeking to increase our efficiency to personal loan customers and consequently enhance the service we offer to customers calling at our branches.

"Anyone phoning our Customer Service Centre may also enquire about any other products offered by BoV," Mr Vassallo said.
