If I want to work abroad, in which countries can I seek work?

You will have the right to work in all the EU countries, that is, all the current 15 EU countries as well as all the new member countries ranging from Poland to the Baltic countries and Cyprus. Ten new countries are expected to join the EU in 2004, bringing the total number of members up to 25. In addition, you can also seek work in Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and possibly Switzerland. Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey are also candidate countries but will not join the EU until later.

And how do I apply for a work permit abroad?

You will not need to apply for a work permit. Today, to be able to work abroad you need a work permit and this can be refused by the national authorities of the country where you want to work. After membership this will change because as an EU citizen you will be able to seek work without any need of a work permit. You simply apply for the job, and if you are selected, you start working.
