The positive trend in the GSSE squash competitions was extended to the event for teams yesterday at the Marsa SC squash courts.

After the two gold medals in the singles events on Tuesday, the women's national selection started their five-team round robin commitments with two wins over Luxembourg and Iceland while their male counterparts had the better of the same two rivals as well.

Six sides are taking part in the event for males. Cyprus failed to field a team in the competition for females.

Malta faced Luxembourg in the morning session. The girls' team, composed of Dianne Desira, Therese Camilleri and Annabelle Diamantino, won their match 2-1 while the men's team had the better of their opponents 3-2 in a close match.

The double-tie against Iceland was a more comfortable affair for the Maltese. Johanna Rizzo, Diamantino and Desira all won their matches handsomely for a resounding 3-0 scoreline. That feat was also achieved by the men's team of Jonathan Crockford, Bernard Bugeja, Joseph Desira, Mike Fiteni and Steven Schranz, for another 3-0 win.

The women's team is already in the medals' zone thanks to their two victories yesterday. Their prospects will improve if they manage to beat Monaco today.

Other results: (men) Liechtenstein vs Iceland 5-0; Cyprus vs Monaco 4-1. (Women) Liechtenstein vs Iceland 3-0.
