General Workers' Union general secretary Tony Zarb yesterday filed two suits for libel, one against the Nationalist Party weekly il-Mument and the other against Net Television.

Zarb filed the suit against Net TV editor Anton Attard and news editor Pierre Portelli over a news item on Sunday and against Il-Mument editor Victor Camilleri and journalist Jean Pierre Debono over an article published on Sunday under the heading "Il-kundizzjoni 'unici' ta' Tony Zarb". Meanwhile GWU president Salv Sammut filed an affidavit in which he declared he had not worked or pushed for the removal of Zarb from his post of general secretary as alleged in Sunday's Il-Mument.

He also denied he had negotiated with Zarb to change his views and Zarb would insist that the president's role be strengthened and become full-time, when it came to Zarb considering withdrawing his resignation.
