Bank of Valletta recently sponsored a project of the Malta Red Cross Society for the upgrading of their ambulance stationed in Gozo.

Through this sponsorship, an air conditioner was fitted in the ambulance to regulate the air temperature, thus ensuring that patients do not suffer discomfort due to the build up of heat, especially when they are brought over to Malta by ferry.

The presentation, held at grounds of the University of Malta - Gozo Centre, was made in the presence of Minister Giovanna Debono.

Presenting the sponsorship, BoV general manager Saviour Muscat, had words of praise for the Gozo branch of the Malta Red Cross Society. He mentioned the valuable support the Society provides during various events around Gozo with ambulance posts and first aid services together with first aid education to the general public. He congratulated the volunteers of the society for the valuable work they perform by dedicating part of their free time to being of service to society.

Mr Muscat stated that "BoV's sponsorship shows that the Bank is actively fulfilling its corporate social responsibility within the Gozitan community. We are resolute to continue to play an active part within our society and to continue to be close to the people not only by providing financial services to meet our customers' needs but also by supporting in initiatives which contribute to the island's social and cultural development."

Accepting the sponsorship, Dr Frank Farrugia, chairman of the Gozo Branch of the Malta Red Cross Society, stated that the society depends on donations and sponsorships. The generous support by BoV was instrumental for the upgrading of the ambulance. This will enable the society to offer a higher level of service especially to the Gozitan community.

During the presentation, certificates were presented to volunteers who followed Red Cross Society courses in basic fire fighting, ambulance aide, ambulance technician and volunteer induction.
