The annual Prize Day of Canon P.P. Pullicino Girls' Secondary School, Rabat, was held recently at Villa Lija. An excellent exhibition of students' works was put up and admired by all guests on their way in. All subjects, both academic and technical, had a stand.
The students of French, who participated in the Franco-fête along with eight other schools, presented a report about Pierre and Marie Curie.
An attractive stand was that of the Comenius project, "Waterviews", in which the school is currently participating. This corner of the exhibition showed how subjects were integrated. They included students' works in Art and Craft, Textile Studies and English, all centering on "waterviews" around Malta.
The evening started off with a message of welcome by the past head girl and the introduction of the new one, Elena Curmi Cassar. The school choir followed with the school anthem and popular songs.
This was followed by the much-applauded presentation of the play Id-Dell tal-Princep very ably produced and directed by Edward Gatt. This performance shows what students are capable of doing, given the opportunity. Their commitment during rehearsals (since October) and enthusiasm never wavered. The three young male teachers kept this going through hard work and their excellent teamwork with the students.
In her scholastic report the head of school, Ms Maria Debono, commented and praised the students on their achievements in the Matsec exams and how some students are now attending colleges for further studies. She spoke of the merit system which the school has adopted this year and which is working well.
The 50th anniversary of the school was also mentioned together with the popular annual Jeans Day to raise funds for the Community Chest Fund.
The school Website, http://schoolnet.gov.mt/laura.gatt/default.html, was launched this year.
Ms Debono also referred to the other activities, which are numerous, held during this scholastic year and the team spirit of all members of the staff. Prizes were presented to the students by Ms Marilyn Sciortino, Assistant Director, who afterwards gave a short talk congratulating them on their achievements and encouraging every one to develop her potential as a whole person, thus increasing her self esteem and satisfaction.
