I would like to express my disappointment about the decision taken by the government on the insistence of the GRTU that no trading licence will be issued to the Doulos. I find it very hard to accept in this day and age that free competition is not allowed, in a country with European aspirations.

And here I ask the GRTU a few questions. Does the GRTU know that books can be bought on the internet? Will the GRTU oppose bookshops setting up in Malta once we join the European Union so that it can protect the local market?

One also notes that booksellers did not oppose such trade, so I can ask further, whose interest is the GRTU defending?
