Trading over the week in corporate bonds was made up of a total value of Lm358,382, while total Malta Government Stock turnover over the week amounted to a nominal value of Lm1,707,900 being traded in 41 deals over 16 different stocks. Of these a nominal value of Lm1,567,900 was traded in the 5.9 per cent MGS 2015 (II) alone.

Trading in Bank of Valletta shares opened at Lm2.31 on Monday. Throughout the week this level was never surpassed, with trading being conducted between the said Lm2.31 and Lm2.29, closing at Lm2.31 for the week.

Turnover amounted to 70,490 shares changing hands over 43 deals. At the close of business yesterday, best bids for 2,649 shares at Lm2.20 were left outstanding while best offers of 8,818 shares at Lm2.31 remained unsatisfied.

More gains were registered in HSBC shares this week, when after opening at Lm4.30 on Monday, the equity went up to close the week at Lm 4.33. A total of 36,065 shares changed hands during the week, over 16 deals.

Following yesterday's trading session, 16,800 shares at Lm4.20 and 11,350 shares at Lm4.33 were the best outstanding bids and offers respectively.

Maltacom shares witnessed yet another week of substantial trading. In all 119,030 shares were traded over 32 deals.

Trading opened on Monday at Lm0.90, ranged between Lm0.895 and Lm0.91 during the week, before closing again at Lm0.90 yesterday. 5,000 shares at Lm0.89 and 8,533 shares at Lm0.90 were the best unsatisfied bids and offers respectively after yesterday's session drew to a close.

IHI shares opened the week at Lm0.939 on Monday, reached a weekly high of Lm0.945 before closing yesterday at Lm0.94.

Sixteen deals were struck, over which 53,500 shares changed hands. Best bids for 1,500 shares at Lm0.94 stood against best offers of 5,000 shares at Lm0.95 after close of business yesterday.

In a company announcement issued on Wednesday, the board of directors of International Hotel Investments plc published the preliminary profit statement for the 12 months ended December 31, 2002.

These show a revenue figure of Lm13,756,516 (year ended December 31, 2001: Lm5,541,212), profit after tax for the year of Lm897,132 (year ended December 31, 2001: Lm450,338) and earnings per share of 2c (year ended December 31, 2001: 1c).

The other equities which traded during the week appear below, followed by the range in which trading took place: 3,560 Lombard Bank shares at Lm3.72 and Lm3.719; 21,475 Malta International Airport shares between Lm0.698 and Lm0.70; 2,279 Middle Sea Insurance shares between Lm2.35 and Lm2.40; 12,000 Plaza Centres shares at Lm0.746; 11,796 Simonds Farsons Cisk shares at Lm0.76 and Lm0.769; 500 FIMBank shares at USD1.18 and 3,000 Datatrak Holdings shares at Lm0.399.

The Malta Stock Exchange share index increased by 14.967 points or 0.78 per cent over the week and now stands at 1,922.412.
