A Gzira man has been jailed for two years and fined Lm200 for trafficking in heroin.

Alvin Schembri, 28, pleaded guilty to trafficking in the drug on and before February 18, 2000 and breaching the conditions of a previous release.

Magistrate Carol Peralta ruled that he believed imprisonment was imperative in this case.

He however strongly recommended that Schembri be allowed to follow a drug rehabilitation programme.

Police Inspector Neil Harrison prosecuted.
