A Marsa man was yesterday conditionally discharged for two years for damaging a car and then setting fire to it last month.

Joseph Micallef, 24, pleaded guilty to causing damage to Mario Cutajar's car on April 13 and setting fire to it the next day.

He was however cleared of assaulting and slightly injuring Cutajar after Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard that Cutajar had dropped the charge.

On handing down judgement, the magistrate noted that Micallef had paid Cutajar for the damage caused to the car and had cooperated with the police. She further noted that his criminal record was clean except for a minor contravention.

The magistrate ordered Micallef not to approach Cutajar against a Lm100 fine in default.
