Nature Trust (Malta) and Mellieha local council, supported by the White Tower Bay boathouse owners, are urging everyone, and especially visitors to White Tower Bay in Mellieha, to help the two entities in safeguarding the sand dune there.

The NGO and the council highlighted the fact that the sand dune was the last remaining one on Malta itself and was already severely degraded.

Refraining from camping on the dune, which is illegal, and trampling or parking on it would greatly help in the conservation measures currently being adopted to safeguard it, with the collaboration of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.

Bollards and chains have been placed around the dune to prevent parking and camping activities.

A warden will be on site to protect the dune.

Nature Trust and Mellieha council also called on visitors to the area to report any cases of vandalism or any infringement related to the sand dune either to them on 9942 2086, 7960 4109 (Nature Trust) and 7904 7706 (Mellieha local council) or directly to Mepa on 9926 9926 or 2123 1159.
