Professional dance workshop

Contact Dance Company has invited Welsh choreographer and teacher Douglas Comley to choreograph for the company and to hold a five-day, intensive summer course at the Dance Workshop during his stay.

It is the third summer course to be organised by the company and will offer an opportunity to work at a professional level with the guest artist, who has worked internationally with numerous dance companies and theatres and has assisted many successful projects.

The course will be held between July 5 and 9 and is open to dancers, theatre students, actors and teachers.

It will involve a daily two-hour contemporary dance class, followed by a two-hour study session in movement and choreography.

The course is based on different dance styles, highlighting a soft fluid style, suitable for different levels to lengthen the body and work more efficiently.

The creative sessions are based on producing choreography from movement frameworks and improvisation.

The course is operating on two levels: for the individual who enjoys movement and expression; and for the individual to learn new methods of creating movement for workshops, choreography and classes.

Mr Comley has been resident dance course coordinator and lecturer on BTEC and National Diploma in Performing Arts, GNVQ and AS Dance at Swansea College.

He is also involved in several community projects, including Education for Adulthood, introducing dance to disadvantaged youths, and working with young offenders and their probation officers.
