Nine babies belonging to illegal immigrants from Ethiopia and Eritrea were baptised at the Zurrieq parish church on Tuesday.

The baptism service was carried out by Peace Lab director Fr Dionysius Mintoff while members of the Peace Lab council acted as god parents.

Fr Mintoff said that among the parents of the Eritreans were nurses, accountants, doctors and teachers. However, they were prepared to do jobs that were "below them" to support themselves.
